Ele sorriu e me chamou pelo nome.

Rocksy — Good manners, bad ideas.

Movie Stars Have to Eat Too: The Night Tarantino Showed Up to Pick Up His Dinner

An unlikely encounter, a passion for cinema, food, soundtracks, and a new chapter in Hollywood.

Many years ago, when I was living in Boston, I worked at the carry-out counter of a restaurant. On what seemed like an ordinary evening, the phone rang.

I answered, greeted the customer, took his order, and asked for his name.

“Tarantino.”

I let out a little laugh. He noticed.

“Would you like me to spell it?”

“No, that’s okay. Like the film director?” I asked.

He laughed.

“Yes, just like the film director.”

Twenty minutes later, the restaurant door opened.

It was Quentin Tarantino.

The man himself.

I froze for a moment. He smiled and called me by my name.

I had to maintain my professional composure, but it wasn’t easy. Between laughs, I handed him his order. He paid, thanked me, and left.

The whole thing lasted about three minutes. But for me, it became a frame frozen in time, as if Vincent Vega and Mia Wallace might walk through the door at any moment.

That night, I wanted to tell everyone. But my coworkers didn’t share my excitement. To them, he was just another customer.

To me, he was Quentin Tarantino!

Cinema, Music, and a Lifelong Passion

Perhaps that encounter was even more special because I’ve always been passionate about cinema, especially Tarantino’s films.

Beyond the surprising scripts, razor-sharp dialogue, and unforgettable characters, there’s something else about his work that fascinates me: the music.

He doesn’t simply choose songs to accompany his scenes. He makes music part of the storytelling.

All it takes is the opening notes of Misirlou, by Dick Dale, to instantly bring Pulp Fiction to mind. Or Stuck in the Middle with You, by Stealers Wheel, to recall one of the most disturbing scenes in Reservoir Dogs.

It’s impossible to talk about Tarantino’s cinema without talking about his soundtracks.

And now, one of those stories is getting a new chapter.

Cliff Booth Is Back

Released in 2019, Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood takes us back to Los Angeles in 1969, when the film industry was going through a period of transformation.

Leonardo DiCaprio plays Rick Dalton, a television actor struggling to find his place in a rapidly changing Hollywood. By his side is Cliff Booth, played by Brad Pitt, his stunt double, driver, and inseparable friend.

Between movie studios, parties, vintage cars, and references to 1960s pop culture, Tarantino creates a story that blends fictional characters with real events, including the presence of Sharon Tate and the looming shadow of the Manson Family.

Brad Pitt’s performance earned him the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.

Now, eight years after the events of the first film, Cliff Booth is back.

In The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth, the year is 1977. The former stuntman is still making his way through Hollywood, but his line of work has changed a little.

When he’s not working as a bartender or projectionist, Cliff solves problems for the stars of the film industry. Obviously, not always by conventional means.

The plot takes a new turn when he receives a call from talent agent Karen Crosby, played by Elizabeth Debicki, on behalf of Charlie Peters, a famous television star portrayed by Scott Caan.

What initially seems like just another job soon involves mysterious figures, criminals, and situations filled with ambition, violence, and Hollywood secrets.

The story also introduces Toni, Charlie’s wife, played by Carla Gugino, and Roderick “Hot Rod” Harrison, a former professional football champion turned actor, portrayed by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.

And as if Hollywood’s backstage world weren’t complicated enough, along come the Verdusco brothers, mysterious gangsters causing trouble across the city.

This time, Quentin Tarantino wrote the screenplay, while directing duties went to David Fincher, the filmmaker behind Se7en and Fight Club.

The film is scheduled to premiere in IMAX theaters on November 25, 2026, for an exclusive two-week run, before arriving on Netflix on December 23.

And while I wait to discover which songs will accompany this new adventure, I still treasure a very particular memory of the director who once showed up to pick up his dinner.

After all, Hollywood creates extraordinary stories.

But some happen far away from the cameras, at a restaurant counter, when you least expect them.

And this was one I just had to tell you.
