O rei nunca perde a majestade.

Elvis, as if time had stood still
After directing the 2022 biographical film Elvis, starring Austin Butler, Baz Luhrmann returned to the singer’s world with a different approach: allowing Elvis himself to take center stage.
The production combines restored footage from his legendary Las Vegas performances, 16mm material from Elvis on Tour, and recordings preserved in the Graceland archives.
Rediscovered audio from Luhrmann’s research for his earlier film also allows Elvis to tell part of his own story, in his own voice.
The result is a combination of live performance, musical history and cinematic restoration.
More than a tribute to a legendary performer, EPiC seeks to recreate the experience of watching Elvis onstage: his extraordinary presence, unmistakable voice, movements and ability to turn a concert into an event.
Recognition beyond the music
The four nominations celebrate different aspects of the production, from its editing to the creative use of historical material.
For Luhrmann, whose filmography also includes Moulin Rouge! and The Great Gatsby, the nomination for Best First Documentary Feature represents another milestone in his filmmaking career.
The film had already received recognition at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival, where it finished as the first runner-up for the documentary People’s Choice Award.
The winners of the Critics Choice Documentary Awards will be announced on November 8, 2026, at The Edison Ballroom in Manhattan, New York City.
Elvis may belong to rock ‘n’ roll history, but his performances continue to find new audiences.
A king never loses his crown.
