Eric Clapton e J.J. Cale: três gravações inéditas chegam em edição especial de The Road to Escondido

Cale.
As gravações recuperadas
A edição comemorativa acrescenta três músicas que ficaram de fora do lançamento original: Wrong No More, I Got To Find My Baby e Roll On.
O repertório adicional inclui ainda três interpretações ao vivo: Who Am I Telling You?, Anyway the Wind Blows e Don’t Cry Sister, retiradas de Live in San Diego.
J.J. Cale morreu em julho de 2013, aos 74 anos. No ano seguinte, Clapton lançou The Breeze: An Appreciation of JJ Cale, álbum dedicado à obra do amigo, com participações de Tom Petty, Mark Knopfler, Willie Nelson e outros convidados.

Eric Clapton and J.J. Cale: Three Unreleased Recordings Featured on Special Edition of The Road to Escondido
The 20th-anniversary reissue of the Grammy-winning album arrives in November with six additional tracks, including a recording featuring Billy Preston and John Mayer.
Eric Clapton shared details of the 20th-anniversary edition of The Road to Escondido, his collaborative album with J.J. Cale, on his official Instagram account this Saturday (October 17). Scheduled for release on November 20, the expanded edition will feature three previously unreleased recordings from the original 2006 sessions and three live tracks taken from Live in San Diego.
Originally released in November 2006, The Road to Escondido grew out of a musical admiration that had lasted for decades. Clapton was already familiar with Cale’s songwriting, having turned After Midnight in 1970 and Cocaine in 1977 into two of the biggest hits of his career.
Despite their musical connection, the two guitarists did not record a full album together until both had established successful careers. The result was a 14-track collection that moved effortlessly between blues, country and rock.
From Tulsa to the World
Born in Oklahoma, J.J. Cale became one of the leading figures associated with the Tulsa Sound, a distinctive style blending blues, country, rockabilly and jazz through understated arrangements, gentle guitar work and almost whispered vocals.
His economical approach to guitar playing influenced musicians including Eric Clapton, Mark Knopfler and Neil Young. Rather than relying on elaborate solos, Cale allowed rhythm, songwriting and subtle musical details to take center stage.
The recording sessions for The Road to Escondido also featured guest musicians including Billy Preston, John Mayer and Taj Mahal. The album went on to win the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Blues Album in 2008.
The Recovered Recordings
The anniversary edition adds three songs that were left off the original release: Wrong No More, I Got To Find My Baby and Roll On.
The latter, featuring Billy Preston and John Mayer, has already been released as a single accompanied by an official music video.
The expanded tracklist also includes three live performances: Who Am I Telling You?, Anyway the Wind Blows and Don’t Cry Sister, taken from Live in San Diego.
Alongside the digital release, the album will be available as a double CD and on 180-gram vinyl pressed in Rusty Red and Sky Blue.
A Friendship That Became a Tribute
J.J. Cale died in July 2013 at the age of 74. The following year, Clapton released The Breeze: An Appreciation of JJ Cale, a tribute album featuring Tom Petty, Mark Knopfler, Willie Nelson and other guest musicians.
The project brought together interpretations of Cale’s compositions, highlighting the importance of his songwriting to musicians across different generations.
Now, twenty years after the collaboration that produced The Road to Escondido, these recovered recordings offer another glimpse into the sessions that brought together two of blues-rock’s most influential guitarists.
